The Fly With Me Fund has been raising money through private donations since 2010. Prior to the establishment of the non-profit, the Silver family raised money for The MIND (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Institute at UC Davis in Sacramento.
Today, the money donated to Fly With Me Fund helps approximately 100 families per year access leading edge medical care and therapies at a Fragile X clinic by providing them with grants to subsidize travel related expenses or to cover the cost of the clinic if their insurance does not.
The Fly With Me Fund has also:
-Invested in a Telehealth Initiative at UC Davis’ MIND Institute, bringing clinicians and therapies to families in their homes with the use of technology when they can’t get to the clinic for reasons other than financial ones.
-Provided financial support to the National Fragile X Foundation to establish the NFXF Biobank, supporting Biomarker Research accelerating the research for an effective treatment.
-Invested in the development of an app that, when completed, will improve the communication and collection of data during clinical trials. Learn more
-Provided grants to Fragile X clinics to create best practices for outreach into underserved communities.
-Partnered with FRAXA to fund a Fragile X research study at Geisinger Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute.
-Purchased an EEG/ERP machine for the research lab at MIND Institute which helps with the handling and evaluation of blood samples taken for diagnosis while storing the samples in such a manner that they may be reevaluated at a later date, perhaps during or after drug therapies.
The impact of the Fly With Me Fund benefits both the individuals living with as well as the clinicians working on Fragile X Syndrome to achieve a better future.
